Tea



Tea[1] (n/OR): Tíì: (i) The dried leaves (called tea leaves) of the tea bush (Ewé gbígbẹ (tí ó ń jẹ́ ewé tíì) ní igbó tíì (ii) Hot drink made by pouring boiling water onto tea leaves. It may be drunk with milk or sugar added (Tíì mímu gbígbóná tí a dà sínú omi gbígbóná ewé tíì) Adé drinks hot tea this morning (Adé mu tíì gbígbóná láàárọ̀ yìí)

Teach (v/IṢ): (i) To give lessons to students in a school, college, Universities, etc. (Kí á fún akẹ́kọ̀ọ́ ní ẹ̀kọ́ ní ilé-ẹ̀kọ́, ilé-ẹ̀kọ́ girama tàbí Yunifásítị̀ (ii) To show somebody how to do something so that they will be able to do it themselves (Kí á fi nǹkan han ẹni kan bí wọ́n ṣe ń ṣe nǹkan náà kí òun náà bàa lè ṣe é fúnra rẹ̀). I will teach how to fish ( N ó kọ́ ọ bí a ṣe ń pa ẹja).

Telephone (n/OR): A system for talking to somebody else over a long distance using wires or radio. Irinṣẹ́ tí a fi ń bá ènìyàn sọ̀rọ̀ ní ọ̀nà tí ó jìn. Ó máa ń lo wáyà tàbí rédíò. I made a telephone call. Mo fi tẹlifóònù pe ẹni kan.

Tẹlifísàn (n/OR): A piece of electrical equipment with a screen on which you can watch  programmes with moving pictures and sound. Irinṣẹ́ kan tí a fi ẹ̀lẹ́ńtíríkì ṣe tí gíláàsì wà lójú rẹ̀. A lè wo oríṣiríṣi ètò lórí rẹ̀. Ó máa ń gbé àwòràn jade a sì máa ń gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ tí wọ́n ń sọ. I like to work in a Television House (Ó wù mí kí n ṣiṣẹ́ ní iléiṣẹ́ tẹlifísàn.

Tell (v/IṢ): To give information to somebody by speaking or writing something to somebody. (Kí a sọ nǹkan jade fún ènìyàn yálà nípa sísọ ó jade lénu tàbí nípa kíkọ ọ́ sílẹ̀. He told the news to everyone he saw. Ó sọ ìròyìn náà fún gbogbo àwọn tí ó rí.

Tennis (n/OR): A game in which two or four players use racket to hit a ball backward and forward across a net on a specially marked court. (Eré ìdárayá kan ní inú èyí tí wọ́n ti máa ń fi rákẹ́ẹ̀tì gbá bọ́ọ̀lù síwájú àti sí ẹ̀yìn kọjá lóri nẹ́ètì lórí àyè kan tí wón ti fi ìlà pèsè fún irú eré yìị́. I played tennis. Mo gbá tẹníìsì.

Ten (number/òǹkà): I did well in the test. I scored ten out of ten. Mo ṣe daadáa nínú ìdánwò náà. Mo gba ẹẹ́wàá nínú ẹẹ́wàá.

Terrible (adj/ọ̀rọ̀-àpèjúwe): Very unpleasant; making you feel very unhappy, upset or frightened; a terrible experience. (Nǹkàn tí kò mú inú ẹni dùn tí ó ń mú kí á bẹ̀rù) What a terrible accident? (Irú ìjàǹbá burúkú wo nìyẹn? ).

Tear (n/OR): A drop of liquid forming in and falling out from the eye. (Omijé. Omi tí ó máa ń tinú ojú jade. Did you notice the tears in her eyes? Ǹjẹ́ o ṣàkíyèsí omijé tí ó wà lójú rè?
