The Yorùbáland (Abraham 1958)


Yorubaland extends from Lagos northwards to the Niger (Ọya) and from Benin Republic eastwards to Benin. Not less than ten out of the eleven largest towns in Nigeria are inhabited mainly by Yorùbá. These are Lagos, Ibadan, Ogbomọṣọ, Ilọrin, Abẹokuta, Iwo, Oṣogbo, Ẹdẹ, Iṣẹ́yìn, Ọyọ. The largest is Ibadan, then Lagos. The standard dialect is that of Ọyọ; others are Ẹgba, Ifẹ, Ijẹṣa, Ekiti, Ondo. Ọwọ, Ilọrin, Iṣẹyin and Ijẹbu.
