Some English-Yorùbá Words


Buyer: He has found a buyer for his house. Ó ti rí ẹni tí yóò ra ilé rẹ̀.
Buzz: The insects were buzzing around the room. Àwọn kòkòrò náà ń ké bí ọlọ́bọ̀n-ùnbọùn kiri yàrà náà.
By: I mended the door by putting a nail on it. Mo tún ilẹ̀kùn náà ṣe nípa fífi èsó kàn án.
Conduct: He conducted the visitors round the school. Ó tọ́ àwọn àlejò náà sọ́nà yíká ilé-ẹ̀kọ́ náà.
Conduction: Conduction is a difficult area in Physics. Ẹ̀kọ́ tí ó le nínú Físíìsì ni ìtọ́nà.
Conductivity: When we think of conductivity, copper comes to our mind. Tí a bá ń ronú nípa ìráratọná, kọ́pà ló máa ń wá sí wa lọ́kàn.
Confront: A soldier has to confront danger. Ológun gbọ́dọ̀ bá ewu pàdé.
Congruence: Draw a congruent triangle. Ya tirayáńgù tí igun rẹ̀ bára mu.
Connotation: The word ‘Sahara’ has the connotation of heat. Ìtumọ̀ àfikún tí ‘Sahara’ ni ni ooru.
Construction: Ayọ̀ works for a Construction Company. Ayọ̀ ń bá ilé-iṣẹ́ ìkọ́lé kan ṣisẹ́.
Consumer: The consumers have consumed a lot of petrol. Àwọn olùmúlò náà ti lo ọ̀pọ̀lọpọ̀ bẹtiróò.
Contour: He drew contour lines on the map. Ó ya ìlà oníké sí orí máàpù náà.
Convection: Convection is concerned with the process by which heat moves through water. Ìlànà ìrúpọ̀ ṣe pàtàkì fún bí ooru gbígbóná ṣe ń kọjá nínú omi.
Correspondence: There is no correspondence between their ideals and ours. Kò sí ìjọra kankan nínú ohun tí wọ́n kà sí àti ohun tí àwa kà sí.
Counter-intuitive: The judgment was counter-intuitive. Ìdájọ́ náà kò bá òye inú mu.
Coupling: There was a coupling of my song with his there. Ìyọ́pọ̀ orin tèmi mọ́ tire ṣẹlẹ̀ níbẹ̀.
Crab: Crabs are found in or near water. A máa ń rí alákàn ní etí tàbí nínú omi.
Craftsman: The basket weaver was a good craftsman. Oníṣẹ́ ọwọ́ gidi ni alápẹ̀rẹ̀ yẹn.
Craftsmanship: The whole house is a monument of his craftsmanship. Gbogbo ilé yẹn ni ó fi iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ rẹ̀ hàn.
Crank: The machine has an L-shaped crank. Ọ̀pá ẹ̀rọ náà jọ lẹta L.
Creeper: That insect is a creeper. Kòkòrò tí ó lè fà ni kòkòrò yẹn.
Creolization:  The two languages are going through a creolization stage. Àwọn èdè méjèèjì náà wà ní ipò ìdi-èdè-kiriyó.

Crevice: The lizard hid in a crevice of a wall. Aláǹgbá náà fara pamọ́ sínú pàlàpálá ògiri.
